Thousands of Afghan migrants are being forcibly returned from Iran, compounding an already severe humanitarian crisis unfolding across Afghanistan’s border regions.

According to the United Nations, more than 230,000 Afghans have returned from Iran in just the first five months of 2025—many of them without documentation, possessions, or a clear destination. The Iranian government has intensified deportations amid rising political pressure, tightening border controls, and deteriorating economic conditions.

Meanwhile, deportations from Pakistan continue at an alarming scale, with over 600,000 Afghans forced to leave since the crackdown began last year. As AP News reports, families are often separated, children are vulnerable, and many returnees have spent decades outside Afghanistan, now arriving in a homeland they no longer recognize.

Aseel has been actively responding to this crisis since 2023, delivering direct aid to returnees from Pakistan, and is now expanding efforts to help those arriving from Iran.

“We are facing a dual-front humanitarian emergency,” said a spokesperson for Aseel. “They’re weak, overheated, and desperately need something as simple as a drink or a bite to eat. ”

❝ No Shelter. No Food. No Stability. ❞

The Kurdistan24 report highlights the worsening conditions for deportees, many of whom are stranded in makeshift camps at Islam Qala (Iran-Afghanistan border) and Torkham or Spin Boldak (Pakistan-Afghanistan border). Women and children are disproportionately affected, with rising cases of illness, malnutrition, and psychological trauma.

In response, Aseel has activated emergency deployment of aid packages through its digital relief platform, enabling global donors to support vulnerable returnees directly.

Aseel's Returnee Relief Campaign Includes:

  • Welcome Returnees Kits — Essential hygiene, baby items, and first-aid
  • Meal Boxes — Enough to feed an entire family for one week
  • Relief Packages— Containing Juice, water, and biscuits as quick snacks in hot weather
  • Shelter Packages — Emergency tents and blankets for harsh conditions

These packages can be purchased and sent in just a few clicks through Aseel’s platform.

➤ The Time to Act Is Now

With Iran and Pakistan deporting hundreds of thousands and more than 70% of returnees lacking permanent shelter, the pressure is higher than ever. Aseel is calling on the international community, Afghan diaspora, and all individuals who care about human dignity to help expand the response.

This isn’t just about aid—it’s about restoring dignity to those who have lost everything.
